Recessed Can Lighting & Old Outdated Fixtures

Recessed lights are a versatile, convenient illumination option for rooms of all sizes. Thinking of adding recessed lighting to your home or business? Call the installation specialists at Acoustical Ceilings. With decades in the industry and a commitment to customer satisfaction, we’re the preferred lighting provider. Whether you’re starting from scratch or replacing outdated fixtures, we’ll help you create your ideal indoor environment.

What Is Recessed Can Lighting?

Recessed lights are overhead lighting fixtures that sit flush with your ceiling rather than extending downward. You may also hear this type of lighting referred to as downlighting or can lighting. All recessed lights have three main components: the bulb, the electrical housing that holds the bulb, and the trim. In most cases, recessed housings are round. However, you can also choose other shapes, including rectangles, ovals or squares. Also, you can select a variety of bulb and trim options for any given housing.

Why Choose Recessed Lighting?

There are several reasons why you might choose to install recessed lighting. First, you can dim the intensity of this type of lighting to meet your preferences. The wide choice of trim and housing options allows you to customize the look of any lighting setup. Also, since recessed lights don’t hang down into the room, they can make an indoor space seem larger. You can use directional recessed lighting to highlight specific areas or room features. Directional products can also create a “wall washing” effect that increases indoor light levels. Finally, recessed light fixtures can take advantage of energy-saving, long-lasting LED bulbs.

Whatever your reasons for choosing recessed can lighting, the experts at Acoustical Ceilings can help you create your desired results. Our in-house experts can answer all of your questions and help you find products that meet your needs. Moreover, we can follow up our suggestions with top-quality installation services that won’t break your budget.

Our Selection of Lighting Trim Options

When you hire the professionals at Acoustical Ceilings, you can take advantage of our large selection of lighting trim options. Our inventory includes:

  • Baffle Trim: This popular option combines a ribbed housing interior with a bulb that sits well above ceiling level.
  • Open Trim: Products in this category have bulbs that sit flush with your ceiling or just a bit higher.
  • Eyeball Trim: This directional option features a pivoting light that extends down a bit below ceiling level.
  • Gimbal Trim: Gimbal lights are similar to eyeball lights. However, they don’t extend as far downward.
  • Reflector Trim: A mirrored surface on the inside of the baffle increases this option’s light-throwing capacity.
  • Pinhole Trim: Lights with this trim option have narrowed openings that produce a more focused beam.
  • Wall-Wash Trim: This directional product features a partially shielded opening for maximum highlighting capabilities.
  • Shower Trim: Products in this category have glass lenses that protect them from moisture in bathrooms and shower enclosures.

Installation

Successful recessed lighting installation takes great care and planning. That’s true, in large part, because can lights must be placed carefully to provide adequate illumination. Pre-installation considerations include the size of your chosen room and the right layout for maximum light dispersal. Care must also be taken to ensure an adequate supply of electrical power.

With this information in hand, you can begin shopping for housings, bulbs and trim packages that suit your needs. Steps required for proper installation of these components include:

  • Cutting the holes for your new lights
  • Removing existing electrical boxes and replacing them with new boxes suitable for recessed lighting
  • Running the new electrical wires
  • Mounting the can lighting housings in your ceiling
  • Mounting your chosen trim options
  • Installing your chosen bulbs and making any required directional adjustments

While you could potentially do all of this work on your own, recessed lighting installation isn’t really for non-professionals. On even a small job, there is a wide range of factors to consider. Without a specialist in your corner, you can quickly make costly mistakes. In some cases, these mistakes may only produce aesthetic problems. However, improper installation of electrical components can have much more severe consequences.

If you have recessed lighting installation on your agenda, all you need to do is give us a call. Our staff of specialists begin every job with a thorough planning process that covers all relevant concerns. Once planning is complete, you can choose from our wide selection of housing, bulb and trim choices. Alternatively, if you prefer, you can buy your components from a third-party supplier. For primary room lighting, most of our customers choose 6-inch round lights. The most popular choices for countertop and accent lighting are 4-inch round lights. However, you have plenty of leeway for picking other options.

Whichever option you choose, we’ll carry out an A-to-Z installation that meets your exact specifications. We’ll also make sure to perform a thorough cleanup that leaves your home or business spotless. When we go, all you’ll need to do is turn your new lights on.

Replacement of Old, Outdated Fixtures

Across the U.S., a significant number of homes and businesses have decades-old lighting fixtures. In some cases, these old fixtures may clash with the look of your current décor. They may also fail to provide adequate room lighting. Also, in a worst-case scenario, an old lighting fixture may have sustained damage that leads to severe risks for electrical mishaps.

Rather than live with outdated lighting fixtures, you can replace them with modern recessed lights. All you need to do to get started is tell us about your current setup and describe your ideal alternative. With this information in hand, we can help you create a new, optimal lighting plan. We can also complete a comprehensive installation that makes your dreams a reality.

Just had ugly popcorn removed from my entire home. Truthfully this is a messy, labor intensive process. Although it may look simple on YouTube videos… it’s not. To get professional looking results in a reasonable amount of time you need professionals to do the job. Bob and his team are the professionals I would wholeheartedly recommend.

Bob gave us a fair estimate and recommended additional lighting work that turned our 70s era Home into a modern home. His crew was pleasant and as neat as can be expected when doing this type of work. Our home was scraped, retextured and painted in two days! The lighting looks fantastic and we no longer are living with ugly fluorescent fixtures.
